Journalism

Coming into PitE while journalism-inclined, I was naturally drawn to the only course offered through the program that exactly corresponded to those interests.

Environmental Journalism, or Environ320, was a challenging, fascinating and inspiring course. Lending well to the founding principles of the Minor in Writing, students were expected to choose an area of interest, expanding on the topic throughout several writing assignments with mutlimodal components, reaching a pinnacle in one final project that compiled all the previous work cohesively.

Already having demonstrated an interest in the food and agricultural sector of environmental issues in the aforementioned research on CAFO's and fertilizer substitutes, I spent the semester exploring the slow food movement.

Below you will find my profile of a local slow-food restaurateur and the subsequent news feature on the movement and its regional factions here in Michigan.
